making the head part 2

After allowing a day for the first layer of paper mache to dry another one was added and the balloon was then set to dry in font of a window where sun light could get to it,this proved to speed up the drying time. 

After applying and leaving about 5 layers of paper mache to dry, white acrylic paint was used to paint over the newspaper. I wanted a white base for the head as i wanted to create something unusual and easily visible, i felt that if the head was big and vibrant white then it would stand out within the bedroom environment and the clutter it may have. The white tone would also not clash with any of the decor in the bedroom, as much as say a yellow head would. 
3 layers of acrylic were painted on to the head, not only did this ensure all the visible newspaper was covered, but it also strengthened the head even more, resulting in a sturdy piece. 
Fortunately when the balloon was popped, the structure didn't cave in, as i had feared it would, after cutting around the base of the popped head to ensure an actual head cut fit inside it, the head was complete. 

    
I used black marker to illustrate the abstract face, i wanted to give the head a rather neutral expression due to the slight humorous nature of the book i will be creating. 
The head will be photographed on various people in their bedrooms soon.
