Adrienne Salinger

The inspiration behind the concept for the photographs came from Adrienne Salinger's 1995 book 'In My Room: Teenagers in their Bedrooms'.

What most engaged me with these photographs is the realness of the environment, and the way the viewer can begin to imagine characteristic of the photographs subject, based on the environment they live in. Salinger had a rule throughout shooting the subjects of her book, they couldn't 'clean up or change their bedroom', this is a rule i want to set when taking the photographs for my book.
I want to capture a person in their natural environment, and see what image the viewer may create of the subject without actually seeing their face, just the environment they live in and what they would spend their money on.
