idea: vintage horror comic

Following on from the previous research i began to think about how i could use this research in a project.

I initially thought about making a series of 'hello my name is' stickers, highlighting the terms that men call women, however this felt too safe and not something that would inspire or challenge myself as a designer, i then throughout about playing on the idea of the terms that women are called (which are often small, cute) and having them screen printed on to a soft fabric like silk. However this agin didn't seem like something that would challenge myself.

I then started to look more closely at the words women in my responses used to describe how the terms of endearment said to them by male strangers/co-workers made them feel, a lot of people said 'creepy' or 'creep'. Creepy automatically made me think of horror, more specifically vintage horror magazines, with the dramatic gory type and over exaggerated expressions.

I then researched in to vintage horror comics as seen above, i really like the use of type and image and how over the top they are, i then came up with the idea of taking inspiration and the design conventions from comics like the ones above in order to create my own comic cover which highlights how terms of endearment can be taken the 'wrong' way by some women, in order to spread the message that asking a woman's name is the safest way to communicate with a stranger. Although the horror covers are quite over the top and exaggerated, i think that this will be an effective way of highlighting the fact that although some women don't see a problem with terms of endearment by strangers, some do, and displaying it in an informed, kind of humorous way will allow women to be heard and hopefully make men who use these terms second guess them, as you never know how someone might receive it.
