RESEARCH

The Garm Guide focuses on vintage and second hand clothing in Leeds. Before beginning to design the publication i thought it would be appropriate to research existing publications similar to what my client has in mind for the Garm Guide.

This page from ACNE's illustrated lookbook features a combination of illustration and photograph, an element which my client wanted me to explore within the Garm Guide.

I intended to take a simplistic, line drawing take on the illustrations within the book, however the use of what appears to be water colour works in showing the details of the clothing more so than a line illustration might, however after collecting more existing illustrations, i'll ask my client for his opinion on which he feels would be more appropriate.

Whist looking for inspiration for the fashion sketches, i found illustrations by 2014/2015 Westminster fashion design students.
In contrast to the ACNE illustrations, these (pictured below) focus more on the colours and lines within the clothing, making the overall piece more visual and less realistic.
I've showed my client these sketches and he agrees that a more abstract illustration will be more appropriate for the Garm Guide.
